A demonstration has been held in Liverpool by the National Union of Rail Maritime and Transport Workers to highlight alleged homophobic treatment of Steam Packet Company staff.
On Saturday the RMT gathered at Pier Head to hold the ferry company to account for allegedly dismissing two women via email based on their sexuality.
The poster which the RMT published said: 'RMT is incensed by this disgraceful, illegal treatment of two of our members. We demand they are reinstated immediately or further action will be taken.'
A Steam Packet Company spokesperson told Energy FM: ‘The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company does not generally comment publicly on private matters relating to its employees or former employees. However, in this case we wish to make clear that the allegations are absurd nonsense and we are surprised that the RMT, which has a long-standing and productive relationship with the Company, has allowed these statements to be issued in its name’.
Energy FM is awaiting a reply from RMT about the situation.
