Professional Manx Boxer Mathew Rennie ends 2019 on a high with another win under his belt and recaps on a phenomenal year of growth in the combat sport.
Since moving from Douglas to Liverpool at age 18, the former Ballakermeen High School student has kept his feet fast and hit the ground running to advance his boxing career at a steady pace. Signing with Steve Woods’s VIP Promotions stable, Matthew made his debut in November 2018.
Now just one year on, at 21-years-old, Mathew proudly rounds the year off with another win taking his record to 5 fights undefeated, winning 4 and drawing 1, in his first year as a professional boxer.
On describing his first year, Mathew commented: 'I have had tough opponents and difficult fights for my first year as a professional, but I have risen to the occasion & raised my profile, and that’s exactly what I wanted to achieve this year'.
Mathew’s fifth professional fight and the last of the year took place on October 26th at the Bonus Arena in Hull.
He added: 'I’d like to thank everyone from the Isle of Man that travel a long way to come and watch me. The help and support go a long way and my success wouldn’t be possible without it. I can’t wait to see what 2020 brings and I will be upping my game in training'.
Matthew is still in training and has some sparring lined up with Ex-Commonwealth Champion Sean Dodd before hopefully hitting the ring again in March 2020.
