Fire crews from Ramsey and Laxey responded to a callout yesterday afternoon to a report of a fire in Ramsey.
At around 2:50pm crews arrived to a property at The Crescent West, Ramsey, entering the smoke logged property to investigate.
Crews realised the occupants were out of the building and that the fire was confined to an oil-fired boiler inside the garage, which the team extinguished using a high pressure hose-reel.
Checks were carried out for hot spots using a thermal imaging camera, then ventilated the smoke logged property using a positive pressure ventilation fan and remained in attendance for approximately one hour.
IOMFRS are reminding the public that smoke alarms that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries, and if there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out.
