Search and Rescue Dog Assoc. locate missing dog at Dhoon
Mon, 25 Nov 2019
Members of the Search and Rescue Dog Association IOM responded to a missing dog callout at Dhoon Glen on Saturday night.
Jim MacGregor and Marc Marshal received a call about a dog which was lost in the area on their way home from Ramsey.
SARDA said they do not usually respond to callouts about other animals. as the Rescue Dogs are trained to pick-up human scent, but they stopped on the scene and liaised with the police.
Due to very difficult terrain the team were worried the owners would put themselves in danger trying to locate the dog, and as SARDA handlers train on difficult terrain they lent their skills in this area to assist the search.
After a long search the team located the dog safe and well and returned him to his owner.
SARDA said: 'We must stress that SARDA Isle of Man does not respond or search for dogs. No search and rescue dogs were deployed on this search.'
Search and Rescue Dogs IIOM is an independent charity run entirely by volunteers and funded by public donations.
