Schools issued with flu and sickness advice
Wed, 27 Nov 2019
The Department of Health and Social Care have issued schools flu and sickness advice in light of staff and pupils taking ill.
The information outlined the importance of reinforcing good hygiene, with schools asked to encourage effective and frequent hand washing, meticulous cleaning policies, binning tissues quickly and to get free flu vaccinations if eligible.
The DHSC said: 'With diarrhoea and vomiting it is crucial to follow the 48 hour rule: do not return to the school, nursery, childcare setting or work for 48 hours after the cessation of symptoms; that is, normal bowel habits have returned and/or vomiting has stopped. There must be prompt isolation and exclusion of affected staff and children and enhanced cleaning of the environment and equipment.'

Also common at this time of year are diarrhoea and vomiting, scarlet fever, coughs and colds etc. The same hand washing and cleaning procedures will help to break transmission of these common winter illnesses.
