Police team-up with banking group for 'Get Safe Online' event

Isle of Man Police are teaming up with a local bank today to inform the public about online shopping fraud.

HSBC are hosting 'Get Safe Online' at their branch on Ridgeway Street, Douglas between 12pm and 2pm to help people protect themselves from falling victim to scams during the Christmas period.

As part of HSBC's campaign, a joint initiative with the police forces in Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man, and Jersey charity Prison! Me!! No Way!!!, the Bank is holding events in its flagship branches in St Peter Port, St Helier and Douglas this week.

People will be able to pop in to speak to Bank staff and the police, and pick up some top tips to help protect themselves from becoming a victim.
 
Darren Richards, Detective Inspector, Isle of Man Constabulary, said: 'Online safety is very important and especially so in the run up to Christmas when so much internet shopping takes place. Make sure you have a happy holiday and not the fraudsters by protecting your passwords, keeping your systems up to date, shopping on validated sites and generally just taking care of how and where you shop online.'
