National Association of Head Teachers are taking part in the simultaneous ballot.

Education unions on the Isle of Man are joining together to simultaneously ballot their members on possible industrial action over pay and conditions.

 

The Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) and the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT), which represent school leaders in all the Island's secondary and primary schools, together with teachers' union NASUWT, have today written to the Chief Executive of the Department of Education to inform him of the ballot.

 

They claim that teachers and school leaders have been forced to accept 10 years of below-inflation pay awards, amounting to real-terms pay cuts.

 

Despite the School Teachers' Review Body (STRB) last year recommending a pay rise of 3.5% for all teachers and leaders, the organisations said that IOM Government refused to award the full amount to all staff.

 

As a result, ASCL, NAHT and the NASUWT have been in dispute with the Department of Education since the start of the year.

 

All three unions believe the situation has reached a point where there is no option other than to act collectively and ballot members.
