A local charity is encouraging people to take part in the Harbour2Harbour walk in the New Year.

 

The 2020 event will take place on Sunday 17th May, starting from Castletown Square and ending at the former Marine Biological Centre in Port Erin.

 

This marks the fifth consecutive year that Dandara has sponsored the initiative, which has been running for seven years in total, raising funds for Southern Community Initiatives, Men in Sheds and Southern Nomads RUFC.  

 

Last year's event had a record-breaking number of 691 walkers, as well as more than 40 dogs, and raised over £7,000 in donations. 

 

SCI Project Co-ordinator and event organiser Janet Bridle says at a time of year when people are looking ahead and making goals for the new year, they were keen to announce the 2020 date so it was fresh in people’s minds, ahead of registrations opening in January.  

 

Janet said: ‘Due to the walk’s rise in popularity in recent years, we wanted to get the date out now so that people can get it in their diaries, particularly at a time when people are thinking about new year’s resolutions. I challenge everyone, regardless of your age, speed or fitness level, to make the Harbour2Harbour Walk one of your goals for 2020! 

 

‘Our walk isn’t a race – instead it’s a feel-good community event which takes you through a beautiful part of the Island, with spectacular views to take in as you trundle, and all while raising money for charity. We’ll also have the shorter route in place again for 2020, for those who don’t feel up to the full nine miles. 

 

‘We’re delighted to be continuing our partnership with Dandara for 2020 and would like to thank them for the ongoing support and commitment.’ 

 

Registration for the event will open in January.
