Police are investigating a mugging incident involving a female being threatened with a knife by an unknown male.
It happened at around 1am on Saturday 28th December on Douglas Promenade near the junction of Broadway.
The victim was followed by the male in question from the Glen Falcon Gardens towards the Prom, approaching the junction beside Castle Mona Avenue when the male walked in front of her and confronted her with what is believed to be a knife, demanding her purse.
The woman gave the man her purse and on doing so, the male returned in the direction in which he came.
The victim was not injured.
Police are appealing to any witnesses who may have seen the incident, or who may recognise the male in question from the below description:
'A white male aged from mid - teens to 30 years of age and of a skinny build, spoke English and was under 6 feet in height, he was wearing a black-coloured coat which had a hood, a black coloured scarf over his mouth and nose, leather style gloves which were black and possibly a red colour.'
Police say this type of crime is rare on the Island and every effort is being made to catch the person responsible and are urging the public to remain vigilant.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at Police Headquarters on 631212.
