Orienteering Boxing Day event sees huge turnout
Mon, 30 Dec 2019
An orienteering event saw a record number of participants this Boxing Day.
Isle of Man Orienteering Klubb held their competition at South Barrule Forest on Thursday morning, which had 91 people overall, 22 of whom were children.
The club is made-up of volunteers, who teach members how to develop the sport of orienteering on-Island through participation, mapping, permanent courses, training and events.
IOM Orienteering Klubb's Tony Garrett said: 'Eight were visitors to the Island, and a continued trend of even split males and females across all events. The under 16’s winners were nine and eight-years-old… amazing!'
Next year will see the club begin a new mini-series from 28th May 2020, and a night orienteering competition on 12th March.
Basic training is available for newcomers before each event - for further information and updates visit the club's
website.
