Ramsey shop accepting donations for injured Australian animals

A shop in Ramsey is collecting donations of soft fabrics for animals injured from bushfires in Australia.

They are sending them onto a woman in Carlisle, who has launched a fundraising appeal to help koalas, kangaroos and other types of animals badly burned.

The Snug on Parliament Street in Ramsey are accepting donations of soft acrylics, such as t shirts and bedsheets for bandages, bat and bird nests until 17th January.

It's been reported that a billion animals will have died in the bushfires and those that make it through the flames could perish in the coming weeks.

A total of 24 people have been killed and almost 2,000 homes destroyed as the bushfires have ravaged three Australian states, burning about five million hectares (12.35 million acres) of land.

On Sunday, a drop in temperature and rain showers has brought some hope of a respite from the flames.
