A serving police officer from Peel has appeared in court accused of stealing over £49,000 from an elderly relative and transferring funds to other accounts.
Detective Constable Michael Stephen Crompton is accused of 20 counts of theft and one count of concealing, disguising, converting, transferring, or removing criminal property.
Mr Crompton appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse this morning, where he pled 'not guilty' to 21 charges made against him.
They are alleged to have been committed between January 2014 and October 2017.
Ms Hughes stated that on 19th January 2014, the accused transferred a total of £49,066.27 to bank accounts in his name.
The money is alleged to have been stolen from a relative, Dorothy Eileen Buchanan.
Ms Hughes agreed to a request from Mr Crompton's representative Ms Cooil to adjourn proceedings until 24th March at 10 am, as the amount of money allegedly stolen and the period over which it was carried out, will take time to work on for the case against.
