A young father from Douglas accused of abusing his wife has been granted a suspended sentence following a court hearing yesterday.
24-year-old Rui Filipe Monteiro Ramos appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes on Tuesday morning, facing charges of common assault on a female, destroying property, and resisting a police officer.
The court heard how on 15th November last year, Mr Ramos assaulted his wife and broke a mirror, before breaking a police officer's ring finger during arrest.
He had done all of this whilst still on probation for a previous conviction.
Mr Ramos admitted to the charges, with his advocate Ms Louise Cooil stating that her client had difficulty in emotional regulation, which is a concern to him and was making use of therapeutic services within prison.
Ms Hughes sentenced the accused to 32 weeks in custody, with a suspension of two years and ordered to pay £500 to the policewoman for injuries.
