Police issue advice after phone scam
Fri, 31 Jan 2020
Police have issued advice after a number of people were contacted by a scam caller.
A number of residents received calls from a woman with a foreign accent yesterday.
The caller stated she was from Manx Telecom and made attempts to obtain personal account details.
Officers say the calls were made from 01482 785686 which is not an IOM number.
Isle of Man Constabulary have released the following advice:
-
If you don't recognise a number that calls you, you can search on line for who-called.co.uk which will let you know if other people have looked up that number and can see if anyone has left any comments.
-
If you have any doubts about who you're speaking to from any organisation don't give out any personal details and end the phone call.
-
Never feel pressured or hurried to pass information. Legitimate callers will understand your concerns and won't mind you making checks. You can obtain a number for the organisation on line or from the phone book to ring them back. Be wary of any numbers the caller gives you to ring them back on. Always verify it.
