A deadline to finish work on Curragh Road in St Johns has been extended.
The Department of Infrastructure says the project has taken longer than estimated as it was found that ground conditions in parts of the site were far worse than anticipated.
A large culvert was found to have collapsed. This had to be demolished and piped into the new drainage system.
A water main was found to clash with the new outfall for the drainage system and had to be diverted.
Officials have required more preparative works to ensure the longevity and quality of the new road.
The road will now stay closed until 30th April.
