Peel Commissioners have announced rates in the town will be frozen for the fourth year in a row.

The local tax has now been set at 257 pence since 2016, however residents will see a £10 increase in the fixed refuse charge this year to cover rising waste costs.

According to commissioner Hazel Hannan, the freeze has been achieved by a mixture of ‘frugal spending’ and Peel’s expanding size, which increases the town’s rateable value.

Recent projects include investment in a new playground outside the town swimming pool, refurbished toilets, and work around St Peter’s old church ruins, as well as support for local events.
