A new social housing complex in Union Mills will exceed standards in energy efficiency, according to those behind the project.

 

Braddan Commissioners’ £4.5 million development, known as ‘Mullen Doway’, will feature four apartment blocks with a mixture of one and two bed units.

 

Each will be highly insulated, tripled glazed, and won’t be heated by oil or gas, in a bid to reduce the carbon footprint of the new housing complex.

 

Local authority chairman Andrew Jessopp says the ‘top standard’ homes will save tenants money on energy bills and offset the impact on the environment.

 

He adds that demand is for one and two bed apartments, so the new complex will allow the authority to ‘ensure best use of stock’.

 

The project has been hit by delays though, after designs problems were identified over drainage, meaning construction is now 20-30 weeks behind schedule.
