The Eastern Civic Amenity site has closed its reuse area after being ‘overwhelmed’ by the numbers of people coming to leave household goods.
Douglas Council leader David Christian says staff believe the surge in use is down to some mass spring cleaning being done by those who’ve had to stay home during the pandemic.
A queuing system has been put in place at the site to ensure social distancing guidelines are enforced, with authorities urging any users to consider whether their trip is necessary.
Recycling material can still be disposed of at the site.
Yesterday, the council announced it had suspended its kerbside recycling until further notice, as it’s not an essential service, and could not be carried out whilst meeting public health guidelines.
