Let us know if you can't pay rent, say local authorities

Local authorities on the Island say they won’t evict anyone who can’t pay rent due to the coronavirus pandemic.
 
Many are asking tenants facing financial difficulties to contact housing officers as soon as possible.
 
Douglas Council manages the Island’s largest social housing stock, with around 2,300 homes in its portfolio.
 
Leader David Christian says tenants who’re struggling should say so at the earliest opportunity.
 
He spoke to Local Democracy Reporter Ewan Gawne. (Listen below)
 
For those who wish to contact Douglas Council with urgent housing enquiries, call 696435, and for housing payments queries call 696344.
 
The Department of Infrastructure looks after tenants in more than 1,000 homes.
 
It’s asking those who’re unable to pay rent as a result of the pandemic to notify the Housing Office as soon as possible on 685955.
 
The board of Peel Commissioners passed a resolution not to evict any tenants during the crisis, and are asking those with problems paying to call 842341.
 
Tenants of Ramsey Commissioners are also asking people to contact the housing office on 810100.
 
In a statement Castletown Commissioners says no tenants should have to face a choice between prioritising rent over other essentials.
 
A spokesperson is urging anyone with immediate concerns to get in touch on 825005.
 
Port Erin Commissioners are asking tenants to get in touch as soon as possible if there’s a problem paying rent by contacting the authority 832298.
