All elective cancer sugery on the Isle of Man will be cancelled from immediate effect.
Health Minister David Ashford confirmed this can maximise the Intensive Care Unit capacity at Noble's Hospital.
Mr Ashford said care plans are being discussed and theatres are to be re-purposed.
He said the decision was an 'exceptionally difficult' one.
