The Leader of Douglas Council has welcomed the Isle of Man Government’s measures to ease restrictions on the retail sector which has allowed non-essential outlets to resume trading.
David Christian said: ‘The Council has been working closely with the Department for Enterprise, local traders and the Chamber of Commerce to arrive at a route map for getting the Douglas retail sector up and running again.
‘Exiting lockdown gradually and safely won’t be without its challenges, but these past months have shown not only people’s resilience but also their patience and understanding. It is this community spirit and the guidance and cooperation from our government partners that will set us on the road to a “new normal” way of life and a measured recovery for the local economy.’
In support of the easing of restrictions please follow the Isle of Man Government’s ‘Shop Safely’ guidelines:
• Maintain a 2m distance at all times, including when queuing outside and once inside the store
• Shop alone where possible to help reduce congestion;
• Listen to and respect staff at all times: they helping to keep you safe;
• Go contactless where possible with your payment method;
• Follow directional markings and respect one-way rules which may be in place;
• Wash your hands before and after shopping – use sanitiser where available in stores.
