Flood alleviation work starts in Laxey

Flood alleviations works will begin today on Glen Road in Laxey.

Work will start on the culvert which channels the Gretch Veg stream under both the Department’s depot and the vehicular entrance to the Henry Bloom Noble playing fields (Laxey Football Club). The culvert then carries on under Glen Road and discharges into Laxey River opposite the depot.

The Department of Infrastructure says one of the factors identified as contributing to the flooding on Glen Road in October last year was this culvert’s lack of capacity.

This project will see the installation of precast wall units and formation of new box culvert units to create a larger capacity waterway.

Glen Road will remain open throughout the works.
