Decision on 2021 Island Games to be made 'next month'

A decision will have to be made by the end of next month as to whether next year’s Island Games go ahead, according to Guernsey’s chief minister.

The Channel island is hosting the event, which is currently set to be held from the 3rd – 9th July 2021.

Gibraltar hosted the Games the last time the biennial event happened in 2019 and the Isle of Man placed second in the overall medal table; with a record of 29 gold, 22 silver, and 17 bronze finishes in total.

Guernsey Chief Minister Gavin St. Pier is on a holiday on the Ise of Man at the moment, making the most of the airbridge between the two crown dependencies.

He told MTTV’s Paul Moulton there’s a lot for organisers to consider when deciding if next year’s event should take place as normal:
