Over 900 people have signed a petition calling for the festoon lights on Douglas Promenade to be saved.
The fairy lights were recently removed and will be replaced with LED lights from next year.
Campaigners have described the removal as 'vandalism' by the councillors.
Adam Keay has started the 'Save Douglas' Lights' petition and says the double string of white lights which run the length of the promenades should be put back up on each side of the road.
Mr Keay said: "The new LED lights which Douglas Borough Council have installed are ugly, they are out of keeping with the promenade and they are no replacement for the subtle beauty of the festoon lighting. The fact that they can bathe the promenade in brash shades of LED light is no replacement for the festoon fairy lights."
The new LED lights will cost £830,000.
