Grant funding available to promote awareness of global issues

Thu, 19 Nov 2020

Applications are invited for a £50,000 grant to promote awareness in the Isle of Man of challenges facing communities across the world today.

The International Development Education, Awareness and Strategy (IDEAS) grant was previously known as the Global Development Education and Awareness Grant.

It will be awarded for 18 months to an Isle of Man-registered organisation or partnership to carry out an activity, or programme of activities, that raises awareness of global development issues.

In addition, the successful applicant will work with the External Relations team to provide strategic advice to the Cabinet Office regarding the agenda for international development.

It would also be required to provide help and support within the Island’s charitable sector to improve effectiveness and governance, particularly of smaller charities.

Policy and Reform Minister Ray Harmer MHK said: ‘With the impact of Covid-19 being felt throughout the world’s poorest and most vulnerable communities, it is more important than ever that we remain mindful of our responsibilities to reach out to those less fortunate.

‘The IDEAS grant is designed to address the Government’s policy objective of raising awareness of global development issues throughout the Manx population, and presents an excellent opportunity for a local organisation to promote greater understanding and empathy.’

Applicants can be registered charities or companies registered on the Isle of Man Charities or Companies Registry.

The deadline for applications is midnight on Friday 18 December.

More information on the IDEAS Grant, including Application Guidance, can be found on the Isle of Man Government website.
