Police stopped 434 vehicles on the Island as part of its annual winter checks campaign.
The force says 45% of vehicles stopped during the two-week operation had a defect.
This years format saw a slight change to previous years with a more intense schedule which included morning check points as a result of public feedback. In addition, the Operation extended its parameters to include checks on HGV’s and English registered vehicles, which is becoming an increasing problem.
The vehicles stopped, included those with obvious headlights out, but also random vehicles.
Included within the total of 434 were 30 UK registered vehicles stopped, the vast majority were booked in for their test at the testing centre. 15 HGV’s were stopped and all found to be roadworthy with the correct operator licence.
