The Isle of Man Public Health Director is welcoming the news of the Coronavirus vaccine but says it doesn’t signal that life will imminently return to normal.
130,000 doses of the vaccination are on their way to the Island and they’ll first be given to people in care homes and their carers, before wider availability.
Doctor Henrietta Ewart says trials have shown that its 90% effective in preventing illness from Covid-19.
Although those who are given the vaccine may not become ill with the virus, it’s still uncertain if they may still be able to spread it to others.
Because of this, Dr Ewart says we have to bear this in mind before we can relax our safeguards and protections.
