Drastic changes to restrictions for people arriving on the island are in force from today.
They were announced by the government yesterday in reaction to the UK’s increasing Covid-19 rates and the emergence of a new variant which is easier to transmit.
People who don’t live here are no longer able to make new applications for exemption certificates, this includes anyone applying on compassionate grounds.
There are also new rules in place for residents returning home.
They will have to isolate for 21 days, or for 14 days if they they choose to be tested on day one and day 13, and the tests comes back negative.
The cost is £50 in total for both tests.
People in self-isolation will no longer be allowed to leave their homes to exercise for an hour as they have done previously.
The new rules will be reviewed in 2 week’s time.
Director of Public Health Dr Henrietta Ewart thinks the island will soon see cases of the new Covid-19 variant. (Click here).
