Two new cases of COVID-19 detected

Sun, 10 Jan 2021

Two new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the Isle of Man.

The first case is a day 1 test result of someone self-isolating having travelled to the Isle of Man.  They remain in self-isolation and will be offered further tests on day 7 and 13 of their isolation period.

The second case is someone who developed symptoms and contacted the COVID-111 for advice and to arrange a test.  They are self-isolating along with other members of their household and will be offered a further test on day 13 of their isolation period.

The source of transmission for the second case has not yet been established, although contact tracing is continuing.  It means there is, as yet, no known link between this case and the existing clusters, including the case at St Mary’s Primary School.

A number of results are still awaited for those identified as potentially being affected by the positive case at St Mary’s Primary School.  The majority of results have, however, been returned from the lab, all of which have been negative.  All affected individuals and their households will remain in self-isolation and will be offered a further test on day 13 of their isolation period.

The Chief Minister, Howard Quayle MHK, said: “The Council of Ministers met this morning and will continue to meet as necessary when more information becomes available.

“My thanks once again to all those connected to the St Mary’s Primary School case.  We should have all of the results back soon.  Our COVID-111 team reached everyone they needed to yesterday and this was made possible by the cooperation of the public who, by and large, are only contacting the service for advice and to report symptoms.  More general enquiries should be directed to the COVID Community Support and Information Team on 686262 or Covid19CommunitySupport@gov.im.

The number of active cases of COVID-19 on the Island stands at 21.
