The Health and Social Care Minister says he is aware of incidents involving people being abused for not wearing a face covering in public.
David Ashford says it is important to bear in mind that there are some of those in our community who suffer from medical conditions which either prevent them from wearing a mask, or it is strongly advised they do not do so.
Mr Ashford said one incident involved a man who was abused outside a shop who suffers from severe breathing difficulties due to previous bouts of lung disease and cancer which he bravely fought off but is now frightened to leave his home.
Posting on social media, he said: "I ask that if people are seen without a mask please consider they may have a very specific and legitimate reason for not wearing one and again that we show tolerance and respect to all of our fellow community."
