The kerbside collection service in Douglas and Braddan has been suspended for two weeks with immediate effect.

Douglas Borough Council says the decision was made to protect staff and the public from Covid-19.

Residents are being asked to stockpile their recyclables, such as glass bottles and cans, until the service resumes.

All four civic amenity sites on the Island are currently closed following the re-introduction of strict coronavirus rules.

A statement from the council says: “The service is not a statutory obligation and the decision has been taken to protect council operatives and the public from any potential transmission of the virus that might be caused through contact with the recyclable material and collection boxes.”

The re-opening of the Eastern Civic Amenity Site has also been delayed, however, bring banks remain open.
