Significant rise in car tax proposed

Car tax is set to increase on the Island under proposed changes from next year.

Tynwald are due to consider an update of vehicle duty rates this month.

The proposals include a one per cent increase this year and use weight instead of engine size to calculate costs from next year.

It would also see a surcharge for diesel cars and light commercial vehicles and a £50 duty for electric vehicles.
