Police are investigating a report of a large group of people swimming in Laxey Bay this morning.

Officers were called to the bay at 6:20am.

Upon approaching, officers witnessed a large group of people quickly dispersing from the area who had been swimming in the bay.

A force spokesperson said: "Although current Covid regulations allow for some outdoor exercise, only individual households, and two households in a support bubble together, can exercise safely and legally in this manner.

This is to prevent the further spread of Covid within our community which could subsequently extend the current lockdown."

"The size of the group present suggests that this was an organised gathering and would tend to dismiss the fact that the regulations were being adhered to on this occasion, and enquiries are ongoing to identify those involved."

Officers appealing for witnesses and anyone who involved to contact Ramsey Police Station.

Police will attend any suspected gatherings of this nature to engage with people present and encourage compliance with the current regulations for the benefit of all island residents.
