Commissioner visits businesses affected by Auldyn House demolition

Tue, 01 Jun 2021

Ramsey Town Commissioners Chairman Andy Cowie has been visiting businesses affected by the part closure of Parliament Street.

A section of the road has been closed to allow for the demolition of Auldyn House after it was deemed unsafe.

Mr Cowie commented: “Whilst the very unfortunate but necessary demolition of Auldyn House has required the closure of a section of Parliament Street to vehicles, pedestrian access through Parliament Street is being maintained at all times and has led to a more peaceful environment  in the area at times. The numerous retail premises in this area are very much open for business and I was delighted to be able to visit some of these recently to talk with some of the owners, their staff and customers.

The retailers we met were very positive about the current level of interest and hoping to recover some of the impact of the Covid lockdowns."

The rest of Parliament Street remains open and a traffic management scheme has been implemented which diverts traffic around the closed section and also allows traffic to enter Parliament Street from Market Hill.
