There are calls for tougher action over aggressive or threatening behaviour towards any Health and Social Care staff on the Isle of Man.
It follows vile and abusive behaviour aimed at members of the Swabbing Team on Island last week.
Prospect Negotiations Officer, Mick Hewer said: ‘It simply isn’t good enough for Government to say this type of behaviour is unacceptable and won’t be tolerated or that, if necessary, the Police will be called. If the same behaviour were levelled at a Police Officer the perpetrator would be arrested, put before the courts and fined or jailed’.
‘The same should happen when our members working within Health and Social Care settings are abused, this sort of behaviour is becoming the norm rather than the exception and it needs to stop now’.
I believe that it is now time for the law to be tightened to give more robust protection for Health and Social Care Staff. We need to see tougher measures put in place as a deterrent to the minority of mindless individuals who think it is ok to abuse our members.'
Prospect said it will help and support any member who wishes to pursue a claim against any individual who has been abusive or physically assaulted them whilst carrying out their work.
