Port St Mary lifeboat were called to assist a rigid inflatable boat which had broken down off Scarlett Point yesterday evening.
The volunteer crew checked that the 2 persons on board were safe and well, and determined that the vessel had broken down because of an engine failure.
A tow was then established between the D-Class inshore lifeboat and the casualty vessel, and they were towed back to the safety of Port St Mary harbour.
The inshore lifeboat Spirit of Leicester was back on station and ready for service by 8.20pm.
Lifeboat Operations Manager Sarah Keggen said: ‘We would like to remind anyone taking to the sea this summer to respect the water. Also, to always wear a lifejacket and carry a means of communication like the casualty did today. Should you get into difficulty call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.’
