General Election 2021: History made after record number of women elected

Fri, 24 Sep 2021

There were some clear winners and casualties as results for the Isle of Man General Election came in overnight.

History was made after a record number of ten women were elected across eight of the 12 constituencies.

Sarah Maltby and Claire Christian will become the first women to represent the Douglas South constituency.

Elsewhere, four ministers and three MHKs lost their seats. Among them was Infrastructure Minister Tim Baker who has been scolded over his handling of the Douglas Promenade Regeneration Scheme.

Three constituencies voted for no change as Ramsey, Onchan and Douglas Central all retained their MHKs.

You can see all the results on our Election Hub and re-watch our Election programme from Studio One here.

Next Tuesday at the first sitting of the house, the new members will be sworn in for a five-year term of office.

They will also elect a new Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Keys.
