Lifeboat called out after person injured

Mon, 27 Sep 2021

Ramsey lifeboat were called on Saturday afternoon following a report that a person had slipped and sustained injuries whilst walking amongst rocks at the top of the beach.

Crew members from Ramsey Lifeboat used the lifeboat’s daughter boat, an inflatable dinghy, to reach the two casualties near Port Lewaigue.

They were transferred to the safety of Ramsey Lifeboat.

The casualties were transferred to the care of Ramsey Coastguard.  One of the casualties was checked over by paramedics from Isle of Man Ambulance Service.

Lifeboat Coxswain Mark Kenyon commented “The casualties had been walking along the beach near Port Lewaigue and the tide had forced them up into the rocks near the base of the cliff. Whilst walking amongst the rocks one of the pair slipped and fell sustaining injuries which, due to the location and tide, required them to be extracted by dingy to the lifeboat. I am pleased that the injuries seem relatively minor although they were clearly painful for the person concerned.

If you are planning to walk along the beach you should check the tide times to ensure that you have sufficient time to reach your intended destination.  If you do get into difficulties on the beach you should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
