Postponed cashless parking system to launch at airport next Tuesday

Thu, 19 May 2022

A new cashless parking system at Isle of Man Airport will launch next Tuesday after being postponed earlier this week.

Car park users will be forced to use the RingGo app - which has been rated poor by 94% of Trust Pilot users in the UK.

People will not be able to pay for parking using cash. Anyone displaying a parking disc can use the car parks for free for one hour.

The car parks will be monitored and vehicle registrations checked to ensure payment has been made. Enforcement tickets will be placed on vehicles which are not subject to a paid session on the system or the session has expired.

Tim Glover MHK, Member of the Department of Infrastructure with responsibility for Ports, said: ‘While we fully anticipate the smartphone app solution to be the most popular way for people to pay for parking at the airport from Tuesday, other options are available.

‘Paying over the phone and online are both straightforward, but require registration - so please try and do that beforehand to avoid any fuss at the start of your trip."

Social media users were keen to have their say on the story, with one writing on Facebook: "Why do Government keep pushing this when it is a massively flawed system. My cynical side thinks they will be looking forward to all the Fines that can be issued to people who don't fit the parameters of the system or can't get it to work."

Onchan MHK Rob Callister said he would have preferred a simple cashless option and not an app.
