David Cannan Passes Away Aged 85

David Cannan
A former Speaker of the House of Keys and MHK for Michael has died aged 85.
David Cannan, who was educated at King William's College was a Conservative Party Councillor in the 1970's and then served in the House of Keys from 1982 until 2011.
From 1986 to 1989 Mr Cannan was the Treasury Minister and was elected Speaker in 2000.
Outside of politics, Mr Cannan also was instrumental in providing sheltered housing in Kirk Michael.
He is also the father of the current MHK and Chief Minister Alfred Cannan who was elected to the seat after David retired.
The current Speaker of the House of Keys, Juan Watterson has paid tribute to Mr Cannan, saying that he was privileged to have worked alongside him in his final term and to see a 'political operator in action'.
