A skate park development in the east needs to be able to ‘cope with the environment Laxey has to throw at it.’

 

That’s according to Garff Commissioners which is building it next to the existing tennis and basketball courts on Glen Road.

 

It was the area worst affected by the floods in 2019.

 

Structural pieces in the skate park, including ramps, are planned to be made out of galvanised steel to ensure that they will not be damaged if Laxey floods again.

 

The structures are also made out of 100 per cent recyclable materials and made with 100 per cent green energy.

 

The commissioners have received planning permission to build the park and are now liaising with contractors for installation of the ground works.

 

Groundworks will begin once the flood defence work in the area is completed.

 

Other enhancements for the area will be put in once the commissioners have discussed and finalised the details.
