An MHK has explained why her Members Interest Register, did not disclose a cash donation to her from a LegCo candidate.
It was revealed that Gary Clueit, who has been nominated for one of the four Legislative Council seats, had given Joney Faragher £250 when Faragher was standing in the 2021 General Election.
Faragher was elected to the East Douglas constituency topping the pole, alongside sitting Member Clare Barber.
Mr Clueit had been nominated on 16th February by Clare Barber with Joney Faragher listed as a Seconder. But up until two days ago, (07/03/23) the donation had not been listed on Joney Faragher's Declaration of Members Interests.
In reaction to the claims, Ms Faragher told us:
"Mr Clueit assisted me with manifesto printing costs. This was declared as per process to the election commissioner after the election and I thought that was the process.
Since it was previously disclosed it did not even register when Mr Clueit's candidacy arose. The President of Tynwald spoke with me following correspondence he received. It was confirmed this should also be on the register so this has been arranged."
The election will take place next Tuesday 14th March.
