Sun, 23 Jul 2023

The Isle of Man TT Marshals (TTMA) has announced that signing on to marshal at the 2023 Manx Grand Prix (MGP) is now open.

TTMA have said that for anyone interested in marshalling at this years MGP can register and sign on via the TTMA website. It added that once registered online, the individual will then have to complete two mandatory online modules, which according to the TMA are “quick and easy to complete”.

For those who have already marshalled at the 2023 TT races or the 2022 MGP will not be required to complete the online modules. Those individuals just need to sign on for the days they are available to marshal for this years MGP by logging into their TTMA account and selecting sessions.

Additional training

TTMA is offering additional training in the form of an Incident Management Course (IMC) for marshals that have undergone a minimum of three sessions on the Mountain Course.

The TTMA said that the day-long course is “purpose built” to provide MGP marshals with the chance to gain more in-depth knowledge on the use of equipment as well as the handling procedures for breakdowns and incidents.

The association also plans on continuing with the sector ‘00’ that was trialled at the last years MGP. Marshals that sign on to this sector are able to be deployed within any sector on the 37.7 mile course.

Jane Corlett, TTMA Ltd director, said:

“Whether it’s your first time visiting the MGP, or you’ve been following the racing for decades, you’ll be made to feel very welcome. And, if you’ve never marshalled anywhere before? You can rest assured you’ll be looked after by the Chief Sector Marshal in your sector and teamed up with an experienced marshal to learn the ropes. There are opportunities around the course to suit all interests, backgrounds and levels of experience.

“You also don’t need to do every qualifying and race session, but every session you can do really does help. By marshalling, you’ll be up close to the action out on track, as well as gaining a new set of skills for free and joining a community that often turn into lifelong friends.”

Marshals will also be invited to attend the Marshals Supper held in the Mercury Club on Sunday August 27. The supper is free to attend to marshals who have signed on and tickets are on a first-come, first-served basis.
