Marown Bowling Club was awarded a grant of £7,500 from Manx Lottery Trust to complete the final phase of construction at its clubhouse and green in Crosby.
In 2021 a new clubhouse was built in celebration of the green's 50th anniversary, with Marown Bowling Club members raising over £15,000 to complete the project.
The club used the Manx Lottery Trust grant to complete remaining works, which included a new shelter, replacement roof on an existing shelter, and fencing around the green.
Philip Kelly, Treasurer of Marown Bowling Club, said that the Manx Lottery Trust funding is “much appreciated” and has enable the club to finish off the remaining works.
“This included the replacement of several structures dating back to the green’s opening in 1971 which were in desperate need of repair, including one of the original shelter’s roofs and the green’s fencing.
“Following an increase in membership numbers, we also wanted to build several new structures, including a brand-new shelter to cover the new clubhouse’s entrance area. The club is very grateful to have received this grant from the Trust which will safeguard the club’s longevity for members – both at present and in the future,” Kelly said.
Marown Bowling Club has evolved into a “social and sporting hub” for many across the Marown community over the years according to Stephen Turner, Chairman of Manx Lottery Trust.
Turner added: “It has been a pleasure to support the project in its final stages.”
