The Green Party have defended it’s Deputy Leader, Lamara Craine, after comments she made online; resulting in a vote of no confidence from her peers at Ramsey Commissioners.

Craine was elected to Ramsey Commissioners as a Green Party candidate

Her online comments (Pictured below) were regarding her opinion of Ramsey town and those who live there. The post caused anger among ratepayers who complained to the Authority.

In her post, Craine referred to the locals as “tw*ts”, along with adding that she is “ashamed” of the town.

The Green party are saying that Craine is the victim. A statement issued by the Party's leader Andrew Langham-Newton, said that the Commissioners’ vote was “incomprehensible decision”, and a “damming and deeply unfair persecution” of Ramsey’s only female commissioner.

It added that “Ms Craine did not bully anyone or commit a criminal act.  She swore in frustration in a message on a private social media page, triggering wide publicity and inquisition by some of her fellow Commissioners in Ramsey”.

The Green Party remain defiant over Craine's actions and claim this chain of events “places a real concern” as to the existence of an environment supportive to women in Isle of Man politics.

The party also criticised and questioned whether media outlets would’ve reported on the story had the comments been made by a male.

It said: “Isle of Man media to run the story and attempt follow-up to keep it running begs the question of whether a male politician in the same circumstances would suffer the same intense and incendiary scrutiny.”
