Vicki Hewison, a daughter of a Cummal Mooar resident said it has been “four weeks of uncertainty, upset, it really is unacceptable” for families and residents of Cummal Mooar.
Several weeks ago Manx Care made an announcement that no replacement for Cummal Mooar residential home was to be built, and that the current facility would be decommissioned within the next two years.
Residents, workers and families have been left with little to no contact from Manx Care and are at cross roads as to what to do when taking in the emotional, physical and financial impact the closure would have.
Energy News spoke to Vicki Hewison and Tina Jauncey, both of whom have family in Cummal Mooar.
Mrs Jauncey, found out via Facebook that the facility was due to be decommissioned. Her mother is in the facility and has dementia. Due to this diagnosis, Jauncey has opted to not tell her about the uncertainty regarding the facilities future.
Vicki Hewison said: “The main overwhelming concern is the safety and well-being of the residents and the staff members.
“It’s very difficult to say to our loved ones that we don’t know what’s going to happen to them.”
Hewison’s Mother only entered the facility on June 20, and at the time of admission the family was made aware that the replacement facility was still due to be built.
At the time of filming, Vicki Hewison had heard from two MHK’s, neither of which were from Ramsey.
Tina Jauncey added that a meeting is due to take place on August 23 at Cummal Mooar, four weeks after the initial “bombshell’ was dropped.
