Manx Care have said that “making any further pay offer at this point is not possible”.
It said that this is due to the current financial position that Manx Care is in and that it is “seeking support” from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to assist in resolving this matter.
Manx Care say it “remains open to dialogue with Royal College of Nursing (RCN) members. However, our options remain limited due to our financial constraints and having exhausted our funding envelope”.
On May 26, 2023, Manx Care made a formal revised offer of 6% plus a consolidated £1,000 payment on each pay point for 2022/23 (thus an additional £1,000 pay rise) in an attempt to settle the pay award for 2022/2023.
Manx Care said: “This offer was accepted by some unions that had rejected previous offers, but was again rejected by the RCN membership and, as a result, the RCN balloted its members for strike action, which was supported. The additional £1,000 hasn’t been implemented, and won’t be implemented until agreement over pay has been reached with all unions.”
Strikes
Nurses who work for Manx Care are set to stage another series of strikes in an ongoing row over pay and conditions.
RCN members will hold another 12-hour walkout on September 14, 2023.
Union members are set to strike between 8am and 8pm, with dates for similar walkouts confirmed for October.
Estephanie Dunn from the RCN said nurses were “exhausted, overworked and underpaid” and the latest 6% offer was "an insult".
She added: “The nursing workforce has seen their cost-of-living soar and demand on services increase without adequate staffing levels in place.
“They are exhausted, over-worked, under-valued, and under-paid for the level of responsibility they have.”
