Local charity, the Isle of Man Youth Motor Project has been awarded £11,970 by Manx Lottery Trust (MLT) to fund a new initiative in partnership with agencies of the criminal and youth justice system.
The scheme that is to run over a 12 month period will have mentoring and learning sessions to those in need of support. In these sessions, the charity hope to address particular issues including anti-social behaviours, drug abuse, theft and social and domestic violence.
The clients will be identified and referred by, for example, the Police Early Action Team and other agencies, e.g. Courts, Probation Services, Educators, etc.
Peter Hodgson, Manager of Youth Motor Project, said: “This new project is particularly important, as thanks to the referral system, we hope to reach members of the community who might not know the charity is there to help.
“We will use proven methods to change responses and challenge existing attitudes and perceptions, with hands-on, practical and creative learning.”
