Small Shoprites to be replaced by Tesco Express

Tesco today (October 10) confirmed to Energy FM that the smaller format Shoprite stores will become Tesco Express stores, post-transition.
The supermarket said that it is in the early stages on planning for the store refits, but will update customers once it has more detail.
In the past comments have been made that supermarkets with distribution hubs overseas have struggled to stay stocked when the boat doesn’t sail and the shelves become empty.
Tesco however has confirmed to Energy FM that as part of this acquisition it has purchased the Shoprite distribution centre.
It intends to continue its work with a number of local suppliers and said it “will be in touch with suppliers to Shoprite to identify any opportunities to work together” and “hope to continue working with many Isle of Man based suppliers, wherever possible”.
Current Shoprite employees in all nine stores will become colleagues of Tesco, where they can “benefit from competitive pay and a great range of benefits”.
The store added that is it looking to recruit up to 60 additional employees.
