Orsted is holding a series of five community information events next month introducing early-stage proposals for what would be the Isle of Man’s first offshore wind farm.
The events will give local people an opportunity to meet the team and learn more about Orsted’s approach to developing the project.
The company has produced a booklet about the plans which will be delivered to homes across the Island from October 23. It includes information about Orsted, early proposals for the Mooir Vannin Offshore Wind Farm Project, and details of the upcoming community.
The community information events run from 2.30pm to 7pm and are on a ‘drop in’ basis:
The booklet and community events coincide with the start of the process to gain planning consent for the wind farm which would be approximately 6 to 12 nautical miles off Maughold Head. This stage of the process involves Orsted publishing an Environmental Impact Scoping Report, which can be found on the company’s website.
John Galloway, Orsted Development Director for the Isle of Man, said: “Our Isle of Man development team are looking forward to the chance to meet, discuss and share views on how offshore wind power off the coast of Maughold Head could support the Isle of Man’s journey to net zero in the decades to come.”
Following extensive assessment and consultation throughout 2024, Orsted intend to submit an application for planning consent to the Isle of Man Government in early 2025.
